Just good, solid advice. If you draw from a singular well of inspiration, you eventually clone that well. Avoid this pitfall by making a list of artists you admire & one thing they each do that inspires you. Create your own 𝘶𝘯𝘪𝘲𝘶𝘦 spin to make these things your own.
This doesn't stop at creatives' works, but also marketing, process, events, website, verbiage, TOS, etc. You can't always control how others' art influences your style, but to consciously emulate the scope of another's way of presenting their work, that's disappointing. Strive to stand out on your own and respect your peers for trying to do the same.
This is what I remind myself in attempts to keep my originality in check. I hope it's enlightening to others, as well. It's an easy thing to fall into & while we might not see it, others definitely do.
I'm inspired by so many. Here are just a few of my wells for artistic inspiration/aspiration:
Colors/Effects: @artofcarmen @VenneccaAD @KijiArt
Anatomy: @sketchy_goat @Chatgr
Expression/Movement: @ShadowBanished @ahfol_
For grace & community: @faebelina
Attitude: @sylessae
TLDR: Take what inspires you & use it in a way that respects yourself enough to display your -own- creativity. Avoid taking -all- or -most- of your inspiration from a single artist. That robs both of you of the ability to stand out & it's just bad taste.
